What a great day we had yesterday! It was a wonderful Easter here at church. I hope it was a wonderful Easter for you and your family. It certainly was for us.
A good question for the Monday after Easter is “now what?” Now that Christ is risen, now that we have been so blessed with a glorious celebration of his resurrection, now that we know the good news of the hope that changes everything . . . now what??
It’s at the end of the Easter scripture we read yesterday. The angel tells the women at the empty tomb to go and tell Peter and the other disciples the good news they have just discovered. So what do they do? They did go. “They got out as fast as they could.” But they didn’t tell. “They said nothing to anyone.”
The risen Christ said much the same thing as the angel just before he ascended into heaven. He said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” We call it the Great Commission. This is the mission Jesus gave us as his disciples. Basically, “Go and tell.”
That’s the “now what?” on this Monday after Easter. Because Easter really isn’t over. Christ is still risen, still alive, still Lord. So don’t sit on your hands and zip your lips! Go and tell! Spread the good news! Be an Easter Christian every day of the year!
