Monday Musings for May 22, 2017
This is the season of graduations. That means this is the season of commencement addresses. Yesterday my sermon was about what Jesus might say to our graduates. I promised to send you this morning the commencement address I referenced in that sermon. It was given by Navy SEAL, now Missouri governor, Eric Greitens. There are links below both to the video and the printed transcript.
I’ll be brief this time, so you can have time to read (or view) one of the best commencement addresses ever.
Here is the part I quoted yesterday:
The more I thought about myself, the weaker I became. The more I recognized that I was serving a purpose larger than myself, the stronger I became.
Here’s what Jesus said:
For whoever would save their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. (Mark 8:35)
And congratulations to this year’s graduates related to Nampa First United Methodist Church. We will be honoring them on June 4. So far our list includes: Cherri Healea, Jacob Huff, and Gillian McFalls. Do you know of others? Please let us know.
