Monday Musings – June 19, 2012

Dear Friends,
Just did my part in the opening exercises for day two of Vacation Bible School.  We should all be very proud of this annual event.  It is not only big, it is also very well planned and executed.  Many thanks to all those who work so hard to make this a hugh success each year. It is a privilege to have a church building filled to overflowing with little children!
Today’s theme is, “No Matter How You Feel, Trust God”.  I told the story of the day Jesus was feeling sad.  His friend Lazarus had just died.  It’s the shortest verse in the Bible, “Jesus Wept”.  The story goes on to tell how Jesus called Lazarus out of the tomb and restored him to life.  It’s a miracle story, but it’s also a story that gives us a very important insight into Jesus.  He felt the same emotions you and I feel.  He could be up and he could be down.  Just like us.  But his faith in God didn’t go up and down with his emotions.  It was steady.  No matter how he felt, he trusted God.
A very talented musician named Mark Miller was our guest at Annual Conference this year.  One of the songs he taught us comes to mind.  “I believe in the sun, even when it’s not shining; I believe in love, even when I don’t feel it; I believe in God, even when God is silent.”
In Christ, Pastor John Watts
