Dear Friends,

I got a text message from Richard Pimentel.  He was on one of his speaking tours. Southern California I think. He just wanted to share something he had come up with and used in one of his speeches.  “Do not be concerned if you grow weary because your burden is too large.  Be concerned if you grow weary because your burden is too small.”

Richard has a gift for turning a phrase and for saying a lot in a few words. I remember the words Jesus spoke, “Come unto me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”  That’s a wonderful promise when we are bearing heavy burdens. Jesus carries the burden with us.  We don’t have to carry it all by ourselves.  And what a gift it is to feel the rest that comes after a long, hard grind!

But what if our burden is too light?  What if we have too much time on our hands and not enough to challenge us?  That’s a concern, too.  I think Richard is right.  That should be a bigger concern.  Jesus is real good at helping us with heavy burdens and also with giving us burdens when our lives become too light and easy.  Jesus comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable.

Which are you?  Do you need the rest Jesus promises?  Or do you need the challenge of living for a purpose higher than yourself?  Either way, Jesus is your man.

In Him,
