John Watts has been the pastor of Nampa First United Methodist Church since 2010. He is passionate about helping people discover Christ’s love for them and nurturing them as they grow in their faith journey.
John has 40 years of ministry experience—serving churches in Idaho and Oregon—and has his master’s from Iliff School of Theology in Denver. John and Helen, his wife of 40 years have three children and one grandchild. John loves distance running (although he admits age is catching up to him), mountain climbing, and all things outdoors.
Graham SourgenFamily Life Coordinator
As the family life coordinator, Graham leads efforts to enrich families by providing them with the tools they need to nurture children in the faith. Apart from teaching and leading children and families, Graham considers it a joy to equip teachers and ministry leaders so that more children can be empowered to grow in Christ.
Originally from South Africa, Graham’s professional background is in Information Technology, and he has been involved in ministry for over 30 years. He and his wife Heather have one daughter in Nampa (who previously held his position at the church), another daughter in the UK, and a son in Australia. In addition to having a passion and joy for children, Graham loves cars—drag racing, sprint car racing and muscle cars. He sadly left a beloved car behind when he moved from South Africa.
Carolyn CurtisKid's Stuff Preschool and Daycare Director
Carolyn believes she has the best job in the world. She has worked with the daycare since 1998 and held her position as director since 2007 and strives to make the daycare and preschool a place parents can feel confident knowing their children are cared for and loved. On top of that, Carolyn wants families of children in daycare to feel like they are part of the church’s extended family.
As a mom of two, Carolyn understands firsthand the anxiety that can surround deciding who takes care of your children. Carolyn’s children are now grown. Her daughter is a teacher in Nampa and her son is a sports writer in Idaho Falls. Carolyn is a Nampa-native and other than a short stint on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, has always called Nampa home.
Jeanne KustererChoir Director
Jeanne says if you want to be really feel plugged in at Nampa First United Methodist, you need to be part of the choir! Since Jeanne started as choir director in 1989, the choir has grown from just a handful to around 30 people who sing a wide variety of songs from hymns to contemporary. Jeanne loves the church—the people, the staff, and the Methodist tradition.
Jeanne moved with her husband to Idaho from Colorado. She is involved with Laura’s Angels—a care team that visits people who need help. Jeanne spends her free time with friends, gardening, walking at the gym, and flying in a small aircraft with her husband.
Nancy loves the versatility of the organ—it can be soft and intimate or it can be loud and reverberating. Depending on what is needed, the organ can even take the place of an orchestra. Nancy plays the organ at Nampa First United Methodist during the traditional, Wesleyan services and has been part of the church since 1975.
Nancy began playing the organ in college and has used her gifts to bless churches in California and Idaho.
Tim SwansonMusic Director
Tim came to Nampa First United Methodist after responding to a Craigslist ad. Over a decade later, he can be found on Sunday mornings in the second service leading a thriving praise band—made up of singers, guitarists, bass players, horn players, and more—playing everything from newer worship songs to old hymns with a swing beat. This service is welcoming, warm, and fun as people come together to worship God.
Tim is the son of a Nazarene preacher from Washington and has been a high school and collegiate basketball coach, drama and piano teacher, and musician. He and his wife, Christine, live in Nampa and have three daughters, Hailey, Ava, and Miranda.
Heather SourgenNursery Coordinator
When teaching two- and three-year-olds, Heather suggests keeping the message simple: “Jesus loves you, He loves everyone, and God will take care of you.” (This simple message resonates with people of all ages by the way.) Heather and her husband Graham (see above) have been involved in children’s ministry for over 30 years in South Africa and the US. Heather is the nursery coordinator and makes sure that young children (birth through three) are not only taken care of but grow spiritually.
Heather loves sewing, particularly smocking, dresses for little girls and enjoys when she gets to spend time with her children and grandchildren who live all over the world.
Margie FrasierOffice Manager
Margie is excited to serve on staff at Nampa First United Methodist as the office manager. She has a background working in large office settings and is gifted administratively. Margie loves working with people and is excited to be the first point of contact people have with the church. Margie has attended the church since 2007, when she and her husband moved to Idaho from their farm in Central Oregon.
Margie has been involved in a number of roles at the church—from playing in the bell choir to being the unofficial “snack lady” at vacation Bible school. She loves to bake zucchini bread, crotchet, and make toys for kids for the church’s Christmas bazaar.
